Let $h(x)=(g\circ f)(x)$, then

$$h^{\prime }(x)=\frac{d}{dx}(g\circ f)(x)=g^{\prime }(f(x))\cdot f^{\prime }(x)$$

In other words, if we let $u=f(x)$,

$$\frac{dy}{dx}=\frac{dy}{du}\cdot \frac{du}{dx}$$
